Prem Dayal Pradhan (Aapa) was born in Ilam district on 24 June 1924,
in a Hindu family and completed his education in Kolkata, India, and joined the
British Air Force. In the year 1950, he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior
and was baptized, and after taking leave from the army, he used to come to Eastern
Nepal from time to time to preach the gospel. He was unable to refuse God's
call, he retired from the army and prepared to serve God in Nepal. Therefore, before
going to full-time Ministry in Nepal, he studied at Allahabad Bible School in
1956 with his family. He came to Nepal with his family around 1958 to serve
Nepal. Served in Butwal for some time and came to Tansen from Butwal for
Ministry. After serving for some time in 1960, during the reign of King
Mahendra Bir Vikram Shahdev, he was sent to prison for 6 years for preaching
the gospel and giving baptism. Even though the police administration gave him
the opportunity not to go to jail on the condition that he would leave the
country with his family, he decided to accept the jail for the sake of the
gospel of this land.
Even though he had to endure a lot of suffering and persecution in
prison, under his leadership, the fellowship started in the prison and as many
were in prison, they were given Bible study as well as prayer and
encouragement. There came a time when the police administration planned to take
away all the Bibles that even the people in prison had because they believed in
the gospel and had a fellowship in the prison. But due to the Lord's mercy, he
did not take away the Bible over time, and for a year, he continued to train
those who were imprisoned for believing in Jesus. The others who only believed
were released from prison after a year, but Prem Dayal Pradhan, who had faith
as well as baptism, was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
A Rev. Bir Bdr Rai, the person who is in jail with Prem Dayal
Pradhan, according to him, “although his prison sentence was increased to six years,
Prem Pradhan's concern was that the people of Nepal should hear the gospel
rather than going to jail”, so when Rev. Bir Bahadur Rai visited after 1 year,
he was inspired to preach the gospel, gave as a result, he also preached the
gospel without doing anything for a year and then went to Mirik for Bible
study.
In
this way, even though all the faithful colleagues were released from prison and
had to be alone, he did not lose heart, but considered the prison as a field of
ministry and preached the gospel to many types of prisoners and they also
believed in the Lord Jesus. The unimaginable punishment and environment of the
prison only made him stronger in the Lord. His life as a prisoner for Christ,
which started in Tansen Jail, passed through various prisons, and was released
from Kathmandu Central Jail after six years.
His
journey for Christ did not end there. Instead, it was as if the sparks had
turned into a fire. Around 1966, he started a church in Kamalpokhari and also opened
a school in Lazimpat. That church according to Rev. Bir Bdr Rai, is the fourth
church in Nepal where he also served as a pastor for 10 months.
He had
started a school in Lazimpat from 1956 to 1971 where the students are now
serving in positions that can have a great impact on the church and the nation
of Nepal. Around 1970, he took the land for Ministry at Jutpani in Sarlahi.
Even after being released from prison for the first time, he remained in prison
for various periods in the year 1971. Finally, due to his imprisonment,
Lazimpat's school in Kathmandu was closed and in 1971 he moved to the land he
bought in Sarlahi and started his service. Gradually the children grew in the
children's hostel alone with Shree Navajeevan Vidya Shram School started after
overcoming various difficulties and persecutions, he got permission from the
government to operate the school in the year 1980.
Since
then, the educational level of the school has been at the same quality level of
Kathmandu. Though the school was established in Sarlahi, people from different
parts of the country came to study. In a way, his vision was taken up by God in
such a manner that up to about 58000 have graduated from Shree Navajeevan Vidya
Shram with +2 and at present 1588 students are getting the opportunity of
continuous study. Those who had studied here, are working for the country at a
level in all fields. Like some are in the educational field, health,
commercial, political, social, etc.
Even
in Jutapani Hostel; Unprivileged Children got equal opportunities. About 300 unprivileged
children from all over the country had the opportunity to stay and study in the
hostel. Those students are now leading the work of various God’s ministries in
the country and abroad as well as contributing equally to the all-sphere of
development of the country. Especially those who have the opportunity to study
while staying in the hostel are mostly in God's work.
And his
contributions are also in the same way to society during the Panchayat period.
In 1981-1985, once he had become the Pradhan Panch and once he was the chairman
of Village Development Committee when multi-party came in 1997-1998 and had the
best contributions to the development of society. Therefore, while he was
Pradhan Panch in 1986, he was rewarded prestigious award of Gorkha Daksin Bahu
by late King Birendra Birvikram shah.
On 15
Nov 1998 at the age of 74, he was taken to the house of God. Although he was
taken to the Lord, we can find Prem's contribution in all areas.
Educational, health, social development, political, church establishment,
leadership formation, etc. Now, when we evaluate it like this, it is found that
his Vision is very isolated and farsighted. His dreams and visions are found to
be equally admirable and relevant even now.
Maybe
it is because of not being able to understand his very isolated and farsighted
vision so clearly or because the Lord wants to teach his people, there were
many ups and downs after his death. The services that were going on, one after
the other, were surrounded by great frustration and confusion on all sides.
But
the Lord is so good that when we seek the answer to the living God instead of
all these things of frustration and confusion and kneel before Him, "He
will make everything beautiful in His time".
By the grace of God, when it came to the present time, the disappointment and confusion were torn apart, and seeing the ministry he had done spread around and seeing his vision and dream being fulfilled, a new dimension has been added to everything. However, his ministry cannot be limited and kept in one place because he is not only Aapa(Father) of one place but he is Aapa of all of us. where he made the main place to run the ministries and the place where his tomb is located in Jutpani, where we celebrated the 50 years Golden Jubilee festival on 27 Feb to 1 March 2022. Now Aapa's ministries are holistic simultaneously growing under the guardianship of Lakshmi Pradhan, his family members, and under the leadership of Pastor Amar Pahari and the Jutapani team.
